    What ho one and all,

One of my favorite tools shops ILidl!) is about to have a telescopic ladder at a good price and specs. I have quite a number of tools from Lidl (angle grinders, router jigsaw, various spanners and sockets, etc) and they all seems to be good quality.

However, I could find many internal uses for a telescopic ladder but I have my doubts about the structure and safety of these things. It is not Lidl in particular, just telescopic ladder in general. Too many sliding parts, too many locking parts.

What is the general consensus? Is the concept to a telescopic ladder a dodgy idea?

    Thanks and toodle-oo

Any thing sold in the UK has to be fit for purpose so I wouldn't think that such a ladder would be inherently dangerous however longevity is a different matter. There is a difference between 'hobby' and 'professional' quality and my experience of Lidl items is that they defiantly fall into the hobby sector.

IMO ladders are more about how they are used rather than the item itself.

be careful when you extend and collapse them is what I am hold, so slide each catch open gently and when you close it don't just flick the catch and drop the section, hold the catch open and close it gently when the section collapses - that prevents the catch from breaking/snapping and effectively writing off the ladder.

I have one (from Maplins, years ago) that still going strong. Only other tip is to ensure that both sides of each rung are locked - I have gone up it once without being careful and one catch on the left side wasn't locked and the ladder started to roll over sideways which was "rather unnerving" to say the least...

However, on balance a useful gadget to own

I bought a branded telescopic 3.8M ladder a while ago. The ladder is well made, no complaints and one of the deciding factors for me was the width of the treads, some are quite narrow, which are not particularly comfortable if used for long periods. It is however heavier than I anticipated, - general extrusion thickness I guess; You can't have it all ways, stability and featherweight.
As Peter said, Lidl stuff is hobby grade, and like a lot of their product ranges it's, "here today, gone tomorrow" or "job lot" stuff, so don't expect back up if things go awry. I'd dread the thought of trying to resolve a purchase issue. Some of their food stuff is good though.
As for the ladder concept, I have no complaints, and they make life a lot easier on some jobs.

In my experience, you just take it back and they refund the money; no questions asked.

    Gentlemen,

Thanks very much. I know Lidl (and Aldi) is sort-a hobby stuff, but as it i only me using it and that is not every day, I figure most of their products are good enough.

Guess I will zoom down on the morrow and spend some money. It will certainly make life easier with some internal locations where getting my 3.7m ladder to the f/f is a challenge.

The secret with any refund, is keep the receipt!

Bought one and already had some use for it. For one-person, DIY use, seems to be pretty good and certainly easier than maneuvering a 3m ladder through the house!

    Thanks for the input.
