    Good afternoon All,

    My roofers have just completed the full retile of my house and extension and its now my turn to fit the fascia and soffit boards but I need some experienced advice please.

    The roofers have left me with 70mm overhang from the face of the vertical battens to which I'd now like to add a fascia board to, to break up the mass of grey between the cladding and the roof tiles but I'm not sure if I have the room! of that 70mm I'm allowing for 2 lapped layers of cladding (20mm) and 36mm fascia board which only leaves me with 14mm overhang from the roof tiles which to me, doesn't sound a lot but I'm not really sure what that offset is for, will 14mm potentially be enough?

    I've done a quick sketch to help portray my issue, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I hate undercloaks, they tend to seep water into the wooden structure.

    I would omit undercloaks, fascia Just use a soffit board with no ‘L’ bit, mortar set back on top old soffit board and between tiles.

    Would be better still with corner tiles to cloak your verge

    I suspect the undercloak is already installed when they did the verge tiles.

    As tony said just fit a flat board to thinner battens. Before fitting block any holes that mice or wasps can get into.

    Thanks Colin, your suspection is correct, the roof and therefor undercloak is already fitted so I don't think there is much I can do at this stage to prevent any potential seeping?

    The cedral weatherboard that's being fitted offers insect trims that are to be fitted above and under any openings so they should resolve that issue.

    As you both have suggested, I will be going with 'flat' fascias in these instances.
