I just wanted to update you on my LED experience so far.I purchased some 50 odd JCC units for my new build. Some dimmable, some not. The units are JCC Fireguard LED7 IP65 dimmable downlights. 2 months in and 3 have failed so far. Not a very good start as far as I am concerned. At least they have a 10 year warranty. Looks like I am going to need it. The problem is that when you take the energy used in manufacturing the units are they really as green as I hoped? Maybe the rest will be fine but we will see. Have any other members purchased these units? Many thanks,
    Gusty.

That's not good news at all.

Do you want an autopsy done on the failed units or are you getting them replaced under the warranty?

Warranty I am sorry. It is a real shame as the units give fair lumen values and I am very happy with them in general. I just have a nagging feeling that storm clouds may be just over the horizon!!!!! When you have 3 fail fairly quickly confidence tend to drop slightly......
Thank you very much for the offer though.

I had quite a few mini-cfls for spots and they seem to fail at an enormous rate, about 10 in the last 2 years. Very annoying since I bought them for energy efficiency and their expected long life. Perhaps if I get the relative humidity down and the temperature up they may last better?

I've had a similar experience. I have a bathroom light that will only accept a small CFL and they fail with monotonous regularity - I'm lucky if they last more than 12 months. I've taken two apart and both failed from burnt out electronics in the base, so I'm guessing they just get too hot in the bathroom light fitting.

I don't think CFLs will ever do well in a bathroom because they don't get hot enough to dry out.

Hmm, we've had a CFL in our bathroom for years and I don't remember ever replacing it. But perhaps my memory is failing. It's just hanging on a wire from a normal ceiling rose.

Mine inside one of those frosted globe fittings, so fairly poorly ventilated.
